I Love This City and Its Outlying Lands is a score commissioned by the Musée des Beaux Arts de Nantes, France, and Drone Sweet Drone Records. The score was written to be performed in-situ at a retrospective exhibition of Fernand Léger’s paintings covering the period he was engaged with members of the Surrealist Group in New York. The development of the score included the making of a series of sculptures informed by forms and motifs in Léger’s work, the retitling of the forty-nine paintings in the exhibition, and a written composition for solo zither with pre-recorded piano, performed by Sarah Hughes. Sarah Hughes_I Love This City and its Outlying Lands_720 Sarah Hughes_I Love This City_plan_720
