Sarah Hughes, Demo
5 April—30 May, 2016
Upper Gallery, Cass Sculpture Foundation
Demo is an exhibition composed of found, adapted and hand-made objects in different eclectic constellations. These works form a complete whole, in that the disparate works are in fact one work; Demo.
This body of work was initially exhibited at South London Gallery as part of a composing residency Hughes completed this year. For this exhibition at SLG Sarah responded to the site in London, revealing the buildings history and social impact of the gallery in the area. For Demo Hughes has re-purposed and re-aligned different components of this works to create a new exhibition specifically for Cass. She has also introduced new elements, such as readymade toy horses and zebras, in response to the history of Cass Sculpture Foundation and previous commissioned works, such as Michael Joo’s sculpture Doppelganger. In addition to this exhibition there will be a publication by Sarah Hughes in collaboration with David Stent, and a newly released CD by Another Timbre of Sarah’s compositional work, available to buy in the visitor services centre at CASS.
